Stocks Struggle for Direction Ahead of Fed Decision


Stocks are struggling for direction in trading today as investors remain cautious ahead of the release of Federal Reserve’s monetary policy statement.

Investors are hoping that the Fed will implement additional measures to boost the U.S. economy. The Fed is likely to extend its Operation Twist program, which expires at the end of this month.


At last check, the Dow Jones was trading 0.05% lower at 12,831.05, the S&P 500 was trading 0.15% lower at 1,355.95, and the Nasdaq was trading 0.01% higher at 2,930.16.

Consumer Non-Cyclical sector has been the worst performers in the S&P 500 in trading today. At last check, the sector was trading 0.69% lower. Industrials are also down sharply in trading today. At last check, the sector was trading 0.44% lower. Utilities are down 0.22% in trading currently. Consumer Cyclical sector has been the best performer in the S&P 500 in trading today. At last check, the sector was trading 0.32% higher. Financials are up 0.24% in trading currently.

Among the major gainers and losers in trading currently are Procter & Gamble Company (NYSE: PG), which is currently trading 3.38% lower at $60.11, Gevo Inc. (NASDAQ: GEVO), which is currently trading 27.36% higher at $7.54, AspenBio Pharma Inc. (NASDAQ: APPY), which is currently trading 37.83% lower at $1.94, WSI Industries Inc. (NASDAQ: WSCI), which is currently trading 24.74% higher at $6.10, La-Z-Boy Incorporated (NYSE: LZB), which is currently trading 12.95% lower at $11.43, Jabil Circuit Inc. (NYSE: JBL), which is currently trading 7.31% higher at $20.84, and Walgreen Company (NYSE: WAG), which is currently trading 4.29% lower at $28.80.
