It is basic raw material input for its alumina refining process. This business contains various aluminum hydroxide minerals, the most important of which are gibbsite and boehmite. The Alumina business represents the company's worldwide refining system, which processes bauxite into alumina. The Aluminum business combines smelting and casting operations produce primary aluminum. The smelting operations produce molten primary aluminum, which is then formed by the casting operations into either foundry ingot or into value add ingot products, including billet, rod, and slab. The company's history dates back to 1888, when their predecessor company Alcoa Inc. commenced their business. Alcoa Corp. was founded on July 9, 1886 and is headquartered in Pittsburgh, PA.
