Stocks Sharply Lower on Euro Zone Worries
Stocks are headed for a lower finish today, with all three major indexes down sharply in late trading. Stocks have been pushed lower by ongoing worries about the euro zone. Investors’ sentiment has also been weighed down by some disappointing economic data released earlier today.
At last check, the Dow Jones was trading 0.46% lower at 12,438.25, the S&P 500 was trading 0.45% lower at 1,312.96, and the Nasdaq was trading 0.86% lower at 2,825.50.
Technology stocks are leading the losses in the S&P 500 in late trading. At last check, the sector was trading 1.25% lower. Industrials are also down sharply in late trading. At last check, the sector was trading 1.10% lower. Conglomerates are currently trading 0.78% lower. Energy stocks are down 0.80% currently, while Basic Materials stocks are down 0.67% currently. Consumer Non-Cyclical and Healthcare are the only sectors in green in late trading. At last check, Consumer Non-Cyclical stocks were trading 0.18% higher, while Healthcare stocks were trading 0.13% higher.
Among the major gainers and losers in late trading today are Tiffany & Co. (NYSE: TIF), which is currently trading 7.52% lower at $57.15, The Toro Company (NYSE: TTC), which is currently trading 6.12% higher at $72.28, H.J. Heinz Company (NYSE: HNZ), which is currently trading 1.24% lower at $53.19, US Airways Group Inc. (NYSE: LCC), which is currently trading 8.73% higher at $11.96, NetApp Inc. (NASDAQ: NTAP), which is currently trading 14.35% lower at $28.15, Hewlett-Packard Company (NYSE: HPQ), which is currently trading 1.61% higher at $21.42, and Facebook Inc. (NASDAQ: FB), which is currently trading 1.41% higher at $32.45.
