Stocks Mixed in Late Trading
Stocks have pared some of their early losses and are mixed currently. All three major indexes had slipped earlier today after China reported weak trade data and JP Morgan Chase (NYSE: JPM) reported disappointing third-quarter financial results.
At last check, the Dow Jones was trading 0.56% lower at 11,454.52, the S&P 500 was trading 0.58% lower at 1,200.20, and the Nasdaq was trading 0.29% higher at 2,612.40.
Financials are leading the losses in the S&P 500 in late trading. At last check, Financials were down 1.35%. Basic Materials stocks are also down sharply in late trading. At last check, Basic Materials stocks were trading 0.89% lower. Industrials are currently trading 0.85% lower. Conglomerates are currently trading 0.94% lower. Technology stocks have been the best performers in the S&P 500 in late trading. At last check, Technology stocks were trading 0.54% higher.
JP Morgan shares have been among the major losers in trading today. The stock is falling after the bank announced disappointing third-quarter financial results. JP Morgan reported net income of $4.3 billion, down from $4.4 billion reported for the same period in the previous year. At last check, JP Morgan shares were down 5.75% to $31.29.
Other bank stocks have also fallen sharply today following weak earnings from JP Morgan. Among the major losers in late trading are Bank of America Corporation (NYSE: BAC), which is currently trading 5.02% lower at $6.02, Goldman Sachs Group Inc. (NYSE: GS), which is currently trading 3.04% lower at $96.10, and Morgan Stanley (NYSE: MS), which is currently trading 4.48% lower at $15.13.
Among the major gainers in late trading are Clearwire Corporation (NASDAQ: CLWR), which is currently trading 26.92% higher at $1.65, Fairchild Semiconductor International (NYSE: FCS), which is currently trading 10.29% higher at $13.50, and SINA Corporation (NASDAQ: SINA), which is currently trading 17.83% higher at $92.47.
