Stocks Mixed in Late Trading
Stocks have pared some of their early losses and are mixed in late trading. Stocks pared losses despite some disappointing economic data released earlier in the day, which has weighed down investors’ sentiment.
At last check, the Dow Jones was trading 0.09% lower at 13,267.51, the S&P 500 was trading 0.25% lower at 1,402.24, and the Nasdaq was trading 0.26% higher at 3,058.34.
Energy stocks have been the worst performers in the S&P 500 in trading today. At last check, the sector was trading 1.06% lower. Basic Materials stocks are also down sharply in late trading. At last check, the sector was trading 0.62% lower. Financials are down 0.54% in late trading, while Utilities are down 0.62% in late trading. Industrials are currently trading 0.29% higher. Transportation stocks are also gaining in late trading. At last check, the sector was up 0.30%.
Among the major gainers and losers in late trading today are Synacor Inc. (NASDAQ: SYNC), which is currently trading 14.25% higher at $10.10, CVS Caremark Corporation (NYSE: CVS), which is currently trading 3.11% higher at $46.10, Chesapeake Energy Corporation (NYSE: CHK), which is currently trading 13.57% lower at $16.94, Bankrate Inc. (NYSE: RATE), which is currently trading 14.55% lower at $20.26, Aspen Technology Inc. (NASDAQ: AZPN), which is currently trading 16.01% higher at $22.68, Cavium Inc. (NASDAQ: CAVM), which is currently trading 10.72% lower at $26.56, and American Eagle Outfitters (NYSE: AEO), which is currently trading 15.43% higher at $20.65.
European markets ended on a mixed note in trading earlier today. The FTSE 100 Index in London ended the day 0.93% lower at 5,758.11, and the CAC 40 Index in Paris ended the day 0.42% higher at 3,226.33. Asian markets ended mostly higher overnight, with the Nikkei 225 Index in Japan closing 0.31% higher.
