Stocks Holding on to Gains in Late Trading


Stocks are holding on to their gains in late trading, with all three major indexes currently in green. Stocks are gaining on the back of better than expected existing home sales and further monetary easing from the Bank of Japan to boost economic growth.

At last check, the Dow Jones was trading 0.33% higher at 13,608.77, the S&P 500 was trading 0.30% higher at 1,463.70, and the Nasdaq was trading 0.28% higher at 3,185.55.

Consumer Cyclical sector is leading the gains in the S&P 500 in late trading. At last check, the sector was trading 0.87% higher. Services sector has also risen sharply in trading today. At last check, the sector was trading 0.69% higher. Basic Materials sector is currently trading 0.31% higher, while Industrials are currently trading 0.42% higher. Financials are up 0.31% in trading currently. Energy sector has been the worst performer in the S&P 500 in trading today. At last check, the sector was down 0.43%.

Among the major gainers in late trading today are Groupon Inc. (NASDAQ: GRPN), which is currently trading 12.79% higher at $5.29, US Airways Group Inc. (NYSE: LCC), which is currently trading 7.47% higher at $11.08, General Mills Inc. (NYSE: GIS), which is currently trading 2.01% higher at $40.10, United Continental Holdings Inc. (NYSE: UAL), which is currently trading 7.42% higher at $20.70, and Cracker Barrel Old Country Store Inc. (NASDAQ: CBRL), which is currently trading 7.70% higher at $68.52.

Among the major losers in late trading today are Deckers Outdoor Corp. (NASDAQ: DECK), which is currently trading 5.19% lower at $41.67, and Alpha Natural Resources Inc. (NYSE: ANR), which is currently trading 3.81% lower at $7.58.
