Stocks Higher in Mid-Day Trading; Dollar Slides

The U.S. equity market is up in mid-day trading, with all three major indexes currently in green. Stocks have extended their gains in mid-day trading, after opening slightly higher today.

The Dow Jones is currently trading 0.26% higher at 11,605. 51, the S&P 500 is currently trading 0.24% higher at 1,261.50 and the Nasdaq is currently trading 0.24% higher at 2,669.27. Energy stocks are leading gains in mid-day trading, followed by Basic Materials stocks.

Energy stocks are up more than 1% in mid-day trading. Among the major gainers in the Energy sector are Noble Energy Inc. (NYSE: NBL), which is currently trading 3.08% higher at $87.60, Chevron Corporation (NYSE: CVX), which is currently trading 0.87% higher at $91.98, Schlumberger Limited (NYSE: SLB), which is currently trading 1.87% higher at $83.75, and ATP Oil & Gas Corporation (NASDAQ: ATPG), which is currently trading 5.29% higher at $16.73.

Among other major gainers in mid-day trading are BJ’s Wholesale Club Inc. (NYSE: BJ), which is currently trading 6.45% higher at $47.34, RightNow Technologies (NASDAQ: RNOW), which is currently trading 14.50% higher at $22.66, and Marina Biotech Inc. (NASDAQ: MRNA), which is currently trading 5.91% higher at $1.65.

In the currency market, the dollar was trading lower across the board. The Dollar Index is currently down 0.2%. However, the weaker dollar is pushing stocks higher in mid-day trading.
