Stocks Headed for a Sharply Lower Finish
Stocks are headed for a sharply lower finish in trading today, with all three major indexes near session lows currently. Stocks have tumbled for a second time in the last three trading sessions amid rising worries over the euro zone debt crisis and global economic slowdown.
At last check, the Dow Jones was trading 1.12% lower at 12,499.40, the S&P 500 was trading 1.65% lower at 1,313.04, and the Nasdaq was trading 1.97% lower at 2,835.54.
All sectors in the S&P 500 are headed for a sharply lower finish in trading today. Energy sector is leading the losses in the S&P 500 in late trading today. At last check, the sector was down 2.32%. Technology sector has also fallen sharply in trading today. At last check, the sector was trading 2.25% lower. Basic Materials sector is down 1.32% currently, while Industrials are down 1.58% currently. Financials are down 1.92% in late trading.
Among the major losers in late trading today are Kirby Corporation (NYSE: KEX), which is currently trading 11.29% lower at $45.33, Veeco Instruments Inc. (NASDAQ: VECO), which is currently trading 10.95% lower at $30.34, Impax Laboratories Inc. (NASDAQ: IPXL), which is currently trading 11.93% lower at $20.12, Shire Plc (ADR) (NASDAQ: SHPGY), which is currently trading 9.68% lower at $82.52, and Key Energy Services Inc. (NYSE: KEG), which is currently trading 10.18% lower at $7.15.
Among the major gainers in late trading today are Constellation Brands Inc. (NYSE: STZ), which is currently trading 10.22% higher at $21.35, and Teva Pharmaceuticals Industries Ltd. (ADR) (NYSE: TEVA), which is currently trading 4.89% higher at $39.87.
