Stocks Headed for a Higher Finish
Stocks are headed for a higher finish in trading today as the German Chancellor and the French President called for a new European Union treaty that will see closer economic cooperation among euro countries. However, all three major indexes have shed some of their early gains and are well off their day’s highs.
At last check, the Dow Jones was trading 0.57% higher at 12,088.18, the S&P 500 was trading 1.01% higher at 1,256.90, and the Nasdaq was trading 1.12% higher at 2,656.29.
All sectors in the S&P 500 are currently in green. Financials and Transportation stocks are leading the gains in the S&P 500 in mid-day trading. At last check, Financials were trading 1.44% higher, while Transportation stocks were trading 1.51% higher.
Among the major gainers in the Financial sector in late trading are Bank of America Corporation (NYSE: BAC), which is currently trading 3.55% higher at $5.84, Citigroup Inc. (NYSE: C), which is currently trading 5.72% higher at $29.78, Goldman Sachs Group Inc. (NYSE: GS), which is currently trading 3.30% higher at $100.46, and JP Morgan Chase & Co. (NYSE: JPM), which is currently trading 3.84% higher at $33.57.
Among the major gainers in the Transportation sector currently are United Parcel Service Inc. (NYSE: UPS), which is currently trading 1.08% higher at $71.84, FedEx Corporation (NYSE: FDX), which is currently trading 1.10% higher at $83.04, and CSX Corporation (NYSE: CSX), which is currently trading 2.26% higher at $22.14.
Other major gainers in late trading are Affymax Inc. (NASDAQ: AFFY), which is currently trading 18.86% higher at $6.24, SuccessFactors Inc. (NYSE: SFSF), which is currently trading 51.31% higher at $39.72, Dollar General Corporation (NYSE: DG), which is currently trading 1.30% higher at $40.46, and Taleo Corporation (NASDAQ: TLEO), which is currently trading 24.33% higher at $40.98.
