Stocks Extend Losses in Late Trading


Stocks have extended their losses in late trading, with all three major indexes currently session lows. Stocks have been pushed lower by renewed worries over the euro zone debt crisis. Despite today’s losses, all three major indexes are on track to post gains for the week.

At last check, the Dow Jones was trading 0.98% lower at 12,816.40, the S&P 500 was trading 0.95% lower at 1,393.45, and the Nasdaq was trading 1.13% lower at 2,932.39.


All sectors in the S&P 500 are currently near session lows. Transportation sector is leading the losses in the S&P 500 in late trading today. At last check, the sector was down 1.84%. Consumer Cyclical sector is also down sharply in late trading. At last check, the sector was down 1.49%. Financials are currently trading 1.55% lower. Technology sector is currently trading 1.45% lower. Energy sector is down 0.67% in late trading. Basic Materials sector is down 1.06%.

Among the major losers in late trading today are Chipotle Mexican Grill Inc. (NYSE: CMG), which is currently trading 20.78% lower at $320, Cepheid (NASDAQ: CPHD), which is currently trading 21.22% lower at $34.45, Gold Resource Corporation (AMEX: GORO), which is currently trading 29.06% lower at $17.89, and Acacia Research Corporation (NASDAQ: ACTG), which is currently trading 15.17% lower at $33.72.

Among the major gainers in late trading today are SanDisk Corporation (NASDAQ: SNDK), which is currently trading 11.90% higher at $39.26, Baker Hughes Incorporated (NYSE: BHI), which is currently trading 9.75% higher at $45.82, and Google Inc. (NASDAQ: GOOG), which is currently trading 3.16% higher at $611.94.
