Stocks Extend Gains in Mid-Day Trading


Stocks have extended their gains in mid-day trading, with all three major indexes near session highs. Stocks have been pushed higher by some strong corporate earnings reports, which have offset weak first-quarter U.S. GDP data.

At last check, the Dow Jones was trading 0.40% higher at 13,257.52, the S&P 500 was trading 0.39% higher at 1,405.50, and the Nasdaq was trading 0.73% higher at 3,072.17.


Industrials are leading the gains in the S&P 500 in mid-day trading. At last check, the sector was trading 1.15% higher. Services stocks are also up sharply in mid-day trading. At last check, the sector was trading 1.05% higher. Conglomerates are currently trading 0.72% higher. Transportation stocks have rebounded after falling sharply on Thursday. At last check, the sector was trading 0.69% higher. Consumer Non-Cyclical stocks have been the worst performers in the S&P 500 in mid-day trading. At last check, the sector was down 0.21%.

Among the major gainers and losers in mid-day trading today are Aware Inc. (NASDAQ: AWRE), which is currently trading 61.76% higher at $6.05, Allscripts Healthcare Solutions Inc. (NASDAQ: MDRX), which is currently trading 35.96% lower at $10.26, Warner Chilcott Plc (NASDAQ: WCRX), which is currently trading 11.78% higher at $19.45, Procter & Gamble Company (NYSE: PG), which is currently trading 3.93% lower at $64.24, Expedia Inc. (NASDAQ: EXPE), which is currently trading 26.82% higher at $41.32, Amazon.com Inc. (NASDAQ: AMZN), which is currently trading 15.56% higher at $226.48, and Deckers Outdoor Corp. (NASDAQ: DECK), which is currently trading 25.44% lower at $51.79.

European markets ended mostly higher in trading today, with the FTSE 100 Index in London closing 0.49% higher, and the CAC 40 Index in Paris closing 1.14% higher. Earlier, Asian markets ended mostly lower in trading overnight, with the Nikkei 225 Index closing 0.43% lower, and the Hang Seng Index closing 0.33% lower.
