Sara Lee Corp. to Sell Cleaning Products Business

Sara Lee Corp. (NYSE:SLE) has announced that it has agreed to sell its cleaning products business. The company will sell White King and Janola cleaning products business to Symex Holding.

* Symex Holdings is an Australia based detergent manufacturing company.
* Sara Lee Corp. had earlier spun off its body care business.


The company is looking to focus its attention on selling beverages such as tea and coffee and on selling food. Sara Lee Corp. has also made an exit from its hair care business. The company had a joint venture with an Indian company Godrej. However, the company has liquidated its stake in the joint venture.

Sara Lee Corp. expects the Symex deal to be finalized by the first quarter of the year 2011. In the past, Sara Lee Corp. has moved out of its Hanes brand also. The company is now focusing on Hillshire Farm lunch meat and Senseo coffee. The company’s White King and Janola segments are involved in the manufacturing of bleach, laundry, toilet and other cleaning products. These units also market these products. Both the units are operational in New Zealand and Australian markets. Sara Lee had sold its insecticide business earlier this year.
