McDonalds Sued For Happy Meal

McDonald’s Corporation (NYSE:MCD) has been under tremendous pressure from both parents and the United States government, to change their menus and the way they market their products. The First Lady has been actively encouraging parents to improve their kid’s nutrition and the government has back her efforts. Due to her work with improving nutrition awareness and providing healthier meals to children, the federal government has increased funding in order to provide at least one healthy meal to underprivileged children. In addition she has been active in changing the way fast food menus are put together and adding nutritional values to their food items. Several states have also changed their laws and now require fast food companies to display calorie information on their menu. Both parents in most family have to work and as a result, they often do not find the time to provide their children with a healthy meal. Fast food restaurants have seen the trend and in order to market to those children, they have changed the way they advertise and sell their food items. In order to attract young customers, fast food restaurants are known to offer free toys of children’s favorite characters with their happy meals. Due to such offers parents have no choice but to buy their child the food they want, and the toys they want, in order to get them to eat. Even though this has proven to be a convenience for families, these fast food means are certainly not healthy.
Most fast food items are high in calories and parents have been trying to find ways to stop such advertising schemes. It has been reported that parents are now suing McDonald’s for their happy meals and they want the company to change the way they advertise their products. According to the lawsuit, parents claim that such food items are causing childhood obesity and they want the government to take further action. However McDonald has confirmed that they will fight the lawsuit and they claim that parents should be able to make a choice for their children. If they feel that the food is unhealthy for their child, they should not allow them to purchase it. As the case has been a hot topic, the government has already stepped in and they are working on a new law that will limit the way McDonald and other fast food chains advertise their happy meals.
