Market Update After Hours November 9


A look at the major indices showed that the day had been sluggish with a downward trend Dow closed at 12,811.32, Down 121.41 (0.94%); NASDAQ at 2,895.58, Down 41.70 (1.42%) and S&P 500 closed at 1,377.51, Down 17.02 (1.22%).

Major news for the day was – Priceline to buy Kayak in $1.8 Billion deal. The transaction, which would be Priceline’s biggest ever, offers $40 a share in cash and stock for Kayak, a 29% premium to its closing price Thursday and 54% higher than its IPO price.

Companies trading lower post their earnings results are: GRPN -15.8%, SPRD -10.5%, RNDY -7.1%, PEGA -6.2%, IO -5.6%, UNIS -4.7%, AFFY -4.0%, JAZZ -3.3%, TWER -2.6%, DIS -2.6%, HALO -2.5%,

Groupon Inc. (NASDAQ:GRPN) has missed its expected earnings, posting a flat net income on revenues of $568.6m, instead of the three cents per share on revenue of $590.1m that was expected by analysts. GRPN is currently trading at 3.92 +0.16 (4.26%). Groupon’s IPO priced one year ago at $20.

McDonald’s Corp. MCD -1.99% on Thursday reported the first drop in its monthly same-store sales in nine years.

Also in the news was that superstorm Sandy lopsided the number of U.S. workers applying for jobless benefits last week.

Cannabis Science, Inc. (OTC: CBIS) has seen an acceleration in trading volume in recent weeks, spike related to Colorado and Washington states to legalize recreational use of marijuana. CBIS is up 28.01%.

Kings Arms Yard VCT PLC announced that the Directors have declared a second dividend of GBP0.005 per share for the year ended December 31, 2012.

AMC Networks Inc. (NASDAQ:AMCX) reported better-than-expected third-quarter results.

In another development A123 Systems Inc. (PINK:AONEQ), the bankrupt maker of electric-car batteries that received a $249.1 million federal grant, won permission to sell its assets at a Dec. 6 auction where bidders will include Johnson Controls Inc. (JCI) and Wanxiang Group Co.

Shares of Goodrich Petroleum Corp. (NYSE:GDP) are on decline after it reported an adjusted loss in the third quarter worse than what analysts were expecting.

Zipcar (NASDAQ:ZIP) reported 2012 Q3 Results. Zipcar’s third-quarter profit soared due to higher sales and membership growth. Results topped expectations, sending shares soaring in after-hours trading. Currently at $ 6.04,  +0.04 (0.67%), ZIP operates a car sharing network.
