Market Opens Lower
The U.S. equity market has opened lower, with all three major indexes in red. The Dow Jones opened lower at 11,201.66, the S&P 500 opened lower at 1,198.07 and the Nasdaq opened lower at 2,509.39.
Earlier, European equity markets opened lower despite the European Union and the International Monetary Fund reaching an agreement to bailout Ireland. Investors are still worried about the problems in the other peripheral economies, Spain and Portugal.
Netflix Inc. (NASDAQ: NFLX) today began offering its first ever streaming-only subscription plan in the U.S. and also unveiled price increases for its plans combing the DVD mail delivery and unlimited streaming. The company said that the streaming-only plan will cost $7.99 a month. Shares of Netflix Inc. are currently up 7.60% to $186.20, after opening at the $181.07. The stock touched a 52-week high of $187.25 in early trading.
Humana Inc. (NYSE: HUM) today announced that it has agreed to acquire Concentra Inc., a closely held health-care provider, for around $790 million. The acquisition will enable Humana to move into a new business. Concentra is a Texas-based provider of services such as occupational medicine, urgent care and physical therapy at over 300 medical centers. The company has annual revenue of around $800 million. Shares of Humana Inc. are currently up 3.07% to $57.75, after opening at $55.73. The stock touched a high of $58.09 in early trading today.
