Disney Acquires Babble Media (DIS)




walt disneyWalt Disney Company (NYSE: DIS), the global entertainment company, today announced that it acquired leading online parenting platform Babble Media Inc. Babble Media features over 200 influential mom bloggers. The acquisition strengthens the position of Disney’s Interactive Media Group’s Moms and Family portfolio.

Babble Media, which was founded in 2006, is one of the most popular parenting sites on the web and has been named by Time Magazine as one of the 50 Best Websites of 2010. Forbes has rated the site as one of the Top 100 Websites for Women. Bloggers on Babble Media contribute daily to parenting topics, which include child care, health, food, family activities and pregnancy among others.


Babble has been able to attract a variety of audience with its nearly constant stream of posts. The acquisition will allow Disney Interactive to include its Moms and Family evergreen content into Babble.

Brooke Chaffin, SVP of Moms and Family, Disney Interactive Media Group, said that parents’ relationships with Disney are founded in stories and Disney’s best stories are about families. Chaffin further said that the company believes that Babble and Disney can harness the power of storytelling to inform, entertain and empower parents everywhere. Chaffin added that with more than 3.9 million mom blogs in the U.S. alone, Disney Interactive recognizes and values the important and powerful role moms have taken on in new media.

Rufus Griscom and Alisa Volkman, Co-Founders of Babble were excited about the transaction and said that they cannot imagine a better next step than joining the world’s leading media company for families and look forward to bringing together Babble’s resonant voice and community with Disney’s expansive family audience, wide range of content and multi-media platform. Following the acquisition, Griscom and Volkman will join Disney Interactive Media Group.
