Abbott Making a Major Recall

Abbott Laboratories (NYSE:ABT) is recalling glucose test strips from the market because of inaccurate readings. The glucose strips are used to detect the level of glucose in the blood for patients with diabetes.

More than 359 million glucose test strips are being recalled from markets around United States and the number might increase after further tests on other batch. The strips absorb blood too quickly leading to inaccurate readings which will lead to failed treatments. In many cases the wrong readings lead to inaccurate insulin dosages. Abbott found out about the tests in an in-house routine testing and reported the findings to FDA along with voluntary recall.
