Office Depot Inc (NYSE:ODP), is undergoing talks about merging with OfficeMax Incorporated (NYSE:OMX) which is a lesser competition. If all goes according to plans, the deal will be signed at the earliest, possibly by the coming week.

SunPower Corporation (NASDAQ:SPWR) 13.39 +1.94 (16.94%)

The company, on Feb. 7, announced that for the first quarter of 2013, it expects revenue in the range of $475-$550 million, earnings per diluted share in the range of $0.05 to $0.20

Infinity Pharmaceuticals Inc. (NASDAQ:INFI) 41.10 +5.90 (16.76%)

Morgan Stanley issued a bullish assessment of the Cambridge-based company’s prospects and pricing potential. Morgan Stanley rated it an “Overweight” and set a target of $47 price-per-share.

Guangshen Railway Co. Ltd (ADR) (NYSE:GSH) 23.46 +2.79 (13.50%)

HSBC Securities initiated coverage on GSH early this month with an “Overweight”

Staples, Inc. (NASDAQ:SPLS) 14.65 +1.70 (13.13%)

Office Depot Inc. (ODP) was in advanced talks to merge with smaller rival OfficeMax Inc. (OMX).Other stocks in the office supplies sector also rose including SPLS.

Yandex NV (NASDAQ:YNDX) 23.01 -2.58 (-10.08%)

HSBC announced on Feburary 7th that it is upping its rating on Russian search engine Yandex to overweight, and assigning a $31 target price to the shares.

Icahn Enterprises, L.P. (NASDAQ:IEP) 71.04 -7.95 (-10.06%)

Icahn Enterprises LP (IEP.O), controlled by Carl Icahn, will increase its annual dividend to $4.00 per depositary unit from $1.40, payable either in cash or depositary units.

Group 1 Automotive, Inc. (NYSE:GPI) 61.62 -5.03 (-7.55%)

GPI down after the company reported its fourth quarter 2012 financial results. GPI reported diluted net income of 99 cents per share, which fell short of analysts’ estimates of $1.19. In a statement, Earl Hesterberg, Group 1′s president and CEO, said that the company “missed some opportunities to maximize profits via complete leveraging of our cost structure.”

SMI’s First Quarter 2013 Guidance

  • Revenue is expected to be up 1% to down 2%.
  • Gross margin is expected to range from 17.5% to 19.5%.
  • Operating expenses excluding the effect of foreign exchange, government R&D grants and assets disposal are expected to range from $74 million to $77 million.
  • 2013 capital expenditure for foundry operations is expected to be approximately $600 million.

Humana Inc. (HUM) and Astellas Scientific and Medical Affairs Inc., a U.S. subsidiary of Tokyo-based Astellas Pharma Inc., announced a multi-year research collaboration to explore new ideas and ways to improve the health and well-being of patients and members.
