Sears Holdings Corporation to Distribute Movies Online

Sears Holdings Corporation (NASDAQ:SHLD) has launched its online movie download service. The company has collaborated with Sonic Solutions for the project. The service has been named Alphaline Entertainment. The new service will allow Sears customers to download the movie the same day it is released on DVD. This service will also be available for K-Mart customers.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Sonic has made heavy investment in this field. The company also suffered losses on account of its investment for building software and infrastructure. The company was acquired by Rovi Corp. last week. The deal is estimates to be worth $720 million. Sonic currently occupies the top spot for selling online movies. The company is carrying out this business in collaboration with CinemaNow. CinemaNow is a venture of Best Buy Co.

Online film distribution segment is dominated by Netflix, Amazon and Google. Sears Holdings Corporation is a leading retail chain company in the US. The company is also operational in Canada. Sears Holdings Corporation deals in a variety of merchandise ranging from domestic products to automotive goods. The company is based out of Illinois.
