Stocks Headed for a Sharply Lower Finish
Stocks are headed for a sharply lower finish in trading today as concerns about Greece continue to weigh down investors’ sentiment. Earlier today, Fitch downgraded Greece’s credit rating by one notch to CCC from B-. Fitch downgraded Greece’s credit rating amid heightened risk that the country may be forced to exit the euro zone.
Stocks have also been pushed lower by some weak economic data. All three major indexes are currently near session lows. The Dow Jones is currently trading 0.65% lower at 12,516.09, the S&P 500 was trading 1.06% lower at 1,310.70, and the Nasdaq was trading 1.57% lower at 2,828.92.
All sectors in the S&P 500 are down sharply in trading currently. Industrials are leading the losses in the S&P 500 in late trading. At last check, the sector was trading 2.09% lower. Financials are also down sharply in late trading. At last check, the sector was trading 1.30% lower. Transportation stocks are currently trading 1.87% lower.
Among the major losers in late trading today are Advance Auto Parts Inc. (NYSE: AAP), which is currently trading 15.63% lower at $69.23, GameStop Corp. (NYSE: GME), which is currently trading 9.26% lower at $18.91, Dollar Tree Inc. (NASDAQ: DLTR), which is currently trading 5.08% lower at $96.15, and Martin Marietta Materials Inc. (NYSE: MLM), which is currently trading 1.91% lower at $67.29.
Among the major gainers in late trading today are Media General Inc. (NYSE: MEG), which is currently trading 31.53% higher at $4.13, Children’s Place Retail Stores Inc. (NASDAQ: PLCE), which is currently trading 4.83% higher at $46.68, and NetEase (ADR) (NASDAQ: NTES), which is currently trading 4.94% higher at $60.54.
