Stocks End Lower on Euro Zone Worries


Stocks fell sharply for a second straight day as investors remained concerned about the political uncertainty in Greece. However, all three major indexes finished off session lows after news that Greece will receive another bailout payment.

The Dow Jones ended the day 0.75% lower at 12,835.06, the S&P 500 ended the day 0.67% lower at 1,354.58, and the Nasdaq ended the day 0.39% lower at 2,934.71. The Dow Jones has now ended lower for six straight trading sessions.


Conglomerates led the losses in the S&P 500 in trading today, ending the day 1.30% lower. Energy stocks also fell sharply today, ending the day 1.22% lower. Financials ended the day 1.13% lower. Transportation stocks finished 1.21% lower. Consumer Cyclical was the only sector in the S&P 500 to finish the day in green. The sector ended the day 0.16% higher.

Among the major gainers and losers in trading today were Accretive Health Inc. (NYSE: AH), which ended the day 19.10% higher at $10.54, Mercadolibre Inc. (NASDAQ: MELI), which ended the day 12.40% lower at $77.08, MetroPCS Communications Inc. (NYSE: PCS), which ended the day 14.33% higher at $7.50, Kronos Worldwide Inc. (NYSE: KRO), which ended the day 11.81% lower at $20.16, Dean Foods Company (NYSE: DF), which ended the day 11.24% higher at $14.15, FTI Consulting Inc. (NYSE: FCN), which ended the day 8.72% lower at $32.05, and Quest Software Inc. (NASDAQ: QSFT), which ended the day 10.20% higher at $25.17.

European markets ended mostly lower in trading today, with the FTSE 100 Index in London closing 0.44% lower, and the CAC 40 Index in Paris closing 0.20% lower.
