Stocks Headed for a Strong Finish
Stocks are continuing to climb, with all three major indexes near session highs in trading currently. Stocks have been pushed higher by some solid U.S. economic data. Hopes of a Greek bond swap deal have also lifted investors’ sentiment in late trading.
At last check, the Dow Jones was trading 0.92% higher at 12,898.71, the S&P 500 was trading 1.02% higher at 1,356.97, and the Nasdaq was trading 1.37% higher at 2,955.75.
All sectors in the S&P 500 are up sharply in late trading. The gins in the S&P 500 are being led by Technology stocks. At last check, Technology stocks were trading 1.59% higher. Basic Materials stocks are also climbing in late trading. At last check, Basic Materials stocks were trading 1.35% higher. Energy stocks are also up 1.35% in trading currently. Financials are up 1% currently.
Among the major gainers in trading currently are General Motors Company (NYSE: GM), which is currently trading 8.46% higher at $27.04, Advance America, Cash Advance Centers (NYSE: AEA), which is currently trading 32.30% higher at $10.47, Itron Inc. (NASDAQ: ITRI), which is currently trading 22.16% higher at $49, V.F. Corporation (NYSE: VFC), which is currently trading 1.05% higher at $144.75, and TRW Automotive Holdings Corp. (NYSE: TRW), which is currently trading 13.19% higher at $46.94.
Among the major losers in trading currently are Blue Nile Inc. (NASDAQ: NILE), which is currently trading 12.93% lower at $36.42, and Discovery Communications Inc. (NASDAQ: DISCA), which is currently trading 1.62% lower at $45.01.
European markets ended on a mixed note earlier today, with the FTSE 100 Index in London closing 0.12% lower, and the CAC 40 Index in Paris closing 0.09% higher.
