Stocks Headed for a Mixed Finish
Stocks are headed for a mixed finish in trading today, with the Dow Jones currently in green and the S&P 500, and Nasdaq currently in red. Stocks have struggled for direction in trading today weak fourth-quarter results from Google Inc. (NASDAQ: GOOG) and General Electric Co. (NYSE: GE) weighed down investors’ sentiment.
At last check, the Dow Jones was trading 0.59% higher at 12,698.07, the S&P 500 was trading 0.19% lower at 1,312.03, and the Nasdaq was trading 0.30% lower at 2,780.07.
Consumer Non-Cyclical stocks have been the worst performers in the S&P 500 in trading today. At last check, Consumer Non-Cyclical stocks were trading 1.10% lower. Transportation stocks are also down sharply in late trading. At last check, Transportation stocks were trading 0.71% lower. Financials have been the best performers in trading today. At last check, Financials were trading 0.99% higher.
Among the major gainers and losers in trading today are Google, which is currently trading 8.78% lower at $583.40, AsiaInfo-Linkage Inc. (NASDAQ: ASIA), which is currently trading 16.94% higher at $11.60, The Talbots Inc. (NYSE: TLB), which is currently trading 18.22% higher at $3.18, GE, which is currently trading 0.37% lower at $19.08, Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ: MSFT), which is currently trading 5.03% higher at $29.54, Schlumberger Limited (NYSE: SLB),which is currently trading 0.71% higher at $73.38, and Parker-Hannifin Corporation (NYSE: PH), which is currently trading 4.23% lower at $81.38.
European markets ended mostly lower in trading today. The FTSE 100 Index in London ended the day 0.22% lower at 5,728.55, and the CAC 40 Index in Paris ended the day 0.22% lower at 3,321.50.
