Retailers Plan Major Black Friday Deals
Customers will be able to find more bargains, better deals and longer shopping hours following Thanksgiving as retail such as Wal-Mart Stores Inc. (NYSE:WMT), Best Buy Co. (NYSE:BBY) and others try to attract shoppers.
In the fight to attract more black Friday shoppers, retailers will be working extra hours and the stores will be offering more bargains and intense promotions. The blow out deals which were once kept secretive by retail stores are being spread sturdily and in advance, as retailers hope to lure shoppers from competitors, using malls and the net as the means of spreading the offers.
Wall Mart Stores Inc., Best Buy Co and other Brick and mortar retailers launched deals for Black Friday weeks earlier. Whereas, some retail chains have pushed online bargains and promoted pre Black Friday deals.
Crowds of shoppers seeking bargains are expected to turnout in huge numbers this year. About 152 million people over the weekend have planned to shop either online or in stores, a 10 percent increase compared to 138 million shoppers last year, estimated National Retail Federation.
Greg Ahearn, chief marketing officer of Toys R Us Inc., said that the company’s strategy is to offer greater savings than before on Black Friday and plans to offer over 40 mystery deals and over 150 door busters. Something for everyone and something within everybody’s budget, Greg added.
Many retailers throughout Black Friday and the weekend have plans to stagger deals. Wall mart starting from 10 p.m. Thursday, will be offering discounts and deals on home, apparel and toys followed by discounts on electronics by midnight and additional deals the next few days. Toys R Us plans to offer fresh discounts the next morning.
Retailers and malls hoping in order to serve large crowds of shoppers will be stretching their working hours into Turkey Day. About 80 percent of Old Navy outlets will remain open Thanksgiving Day, also including Wall Marts stores and Kmart. Macy’s Inc, Target Corp and Kohl’s for the first time will open stores at midnight Thursday. Toys R Us will open at 9 p.m. Shoppers waiting in queue at Best Buy, which will also open midnight, can watch the movie Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows- Part 2, an outdoor screening.
However, Industry watchers feel that many shoppers hoarding malls and seeking online deals this weekend will have a tight grip on their wallets. The Retail Federation estimates that holiday shoppers this year will spend an average $700, a $14 fall from last year.
