Stocks Headed for a Higher Finish
Stocks are headed for a higher finish in trading today, with all three major indexes holding on to their gains. Stocks have had a solid run in the first quarter of 2012, which comes to an end today. All three major indexes have risen sharply in the quarter, with the S&P 500 headed for its biggest quarterly gain in more than a decade.
At last check, the Dow Jones was trading 0.48% higher at 13,209.39, the S&P 500 was trading 0.42% higher at 1,409.26, and the Nasdaq was trading 0.02% higher at 3,095.99.
Consumer Non-Cyclical stocks are leading the gains in the S&P 500 in late trading. At last check, Consumer Non-Cyclical stocks were trading 0.84% higher. Energy stocks have also risen sharply in trading today. At last check, Energy stocks were trading 0.81% higher. Basic Materials stocks are currently trading 0.61% higher. Technology stocks have been the worst performers in the S&P 500 today, down 0.01% currently.
Among the major gainers and losers in late trading today are ImmunoGen Inc. (NASDAQ: IMGN), which is currently trading 5.12% higher at $14.44, Cybex International Inc. (NASDAQ: CYBI), which is currently trading 21.08% higher at $2.70, Spanish Broadcasting System Inc. (NASDAQ: SBSA), which is currently trading 42.25% higher at $6.70, ASA Gold and Precious Metals Ltd. (NYSE: ASA), which is currently trading 1.46% higher at $25.70, and Research In Motion Limited (NASDAQ: RIMM), which is currently trading 6.77% higher at $14.66.
Among the major losers in late trading are Global Payments Inc. (NYSE: GPN), which is currently trading 9.06% lower at $47.50, and Finish Line Inc. (NASDAQ: FINL), which is currently trading 15.67% lower at $21.37.
European markets ended mostly higher today, with the FTSE 100 Index in London closing 0.46% higher, and the CAC 40 Index in Paris closing 1.26% higher.
