Stocks Sharply Lower in Late Trading
Stocks are sharply lower in late trading today as weaker than expected durable goods data for the month of February has weighed down investors’ sentiment.
All three major indexes are currently near session lows. The Dow Jones is currently trading 0.76% lower at 13,097.57, the S&P 500 is currently trading 0.91% lower at 1,399.67, and the Nasdaq is currently trading 0.90% lower at 3,092.36.
All sectors in the S&P 500 are currently near session lows. Basic Materials and Energy stocks are leading the losses in the S&P 500 in late trading. At last check, Basic Materials stocks were trading 1.71% lower, while Energy stocks were trading 1.73% lower. Industrials have also fallen sharply in trading today following weaker than expected durable goods data for the month of February. At last check, Industrials were trading 1.52% lower. Utilities are currently trading 1.16% lower.
Among the major losers in late trading today are SYNNEX Corporation (NYSE: SNX), which is currently trading 14.23% lower at $37.43, Genon Energy Inc. (NYSE: GEN), which is currently trading 8.23% lower at $2.12, Jos. A. Bank Clothiers Inc. (NASDAQ: JOSB), which is currently trading 8.50% lower at $49.85, InvenSense Inc. (NYSE: INVN), which is currently trading 7.76% lower at $19.15, and Focus Media Holding Limited (ADR) (NASDAQ: FMCN), which is currently trading 6.05% lower at $25.99.
Among the major gainers in late trading today are Pentair Inc. (NYSE: PNR), which is currently trading 14.01% higher at $45.90, and Yelp Inc. (NYSE: YELP), which is currently trading 5.75% higher at $29.24.
European markets ended sharply lower in trading today. The FTSE 100 Index in London ended the day 1.03% lower at 5,808.99, and the CAC 40 Index in Paris ended the day 1.14% lower at 3,430.15. Earlier, Asian markets also ended lower.
