A person has been diagnosed with bird flu after a gap of seven years in Hong Kong.
The patient is a 59 year old woman who had been to China recently. The patient’s husband was diagnosed with bird flu thereafter.
The Government of Hong Kong has stepped up screening of people with pneumonia and is warning public to take precaution. Vaccines for bird flu from major companies like GlaxoSmithKline (NYSE:GSK) and Sanofi Aventis (NYSE:SNY) are developed, the production was stopped because of a seven year dry period. The last time bird flu spread among humans from birds in 2003, the entire population of poultry in Hong Kong was culled.
