Wal-Mart Announces Home Delivery

Home delivery has become extremely popular in many parts of the United States, especially metropolitan areas. Once the economic problems started, more individuals found the need to start looking for jobs while taking a pay cut. Families where mothers were able to raise their children, without having to worry about making a living, can no longer afford to do so. In order to maintain their lifestyle, it has become important for every individual in the family to seek employment. In order to make up for lost income, family members now have to work longer hours and often more than one job. As a result, they are left with little time to carry out their everyday household chores, including grocery shopping. Because of the situation, several major companies have started to offer at home grocery delivery service. Due to the convenience of home delivery, families across the country have increased their use of this service. In addition to grocery stores, other online retailers too have started to offer home delivery grocery service. As they have been quite successful with the service and have been able to report higher profits, even Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. (NYSE:WMT) has now decided to start offering home delivery service. The retail giant hopes to expand their customer base with this service, by gaining back a percentage of the customers they have lost to other lower cost stores. Wal-Mart will start to offer grocery delivery along with other everyday amenities, which one purchases on a regular basis. This convenience will help loyal Wal-Mart customers who are always in search for time saving services.

Wal-Mart announced that they will start in limited locations and eventually roll out the service to other parts of the country, based on its success. With over 4000 retail locations throughout the country, they will be able to cover more parts of the nation, compared to any other retailer. While this is a great advancement for the company, many feel that it will not help them increase their overall income, drastically. However with such a convenient service and their low costs, they are sure to achieve a certain level of success. It has become important for the company to expand their business as they have been losing their customer base to lower cost retail chains. Those who are looking to take advantage of the service will be able to look up by their zip code to see if it is available in their area.
