B&N Introduces Color E-Books

Barnes & Noble, Inc. (NYSE:BKS) is the latest to introduce their version of the e-reader. They have been trying to match Amazon.com’s Kindle with their Nook but is seems that their promotions were not strong enough to match their competitors. The Nook was released just before the holidays and saw lagging sales and with lawsuits, they were unable to continue with the promotion. Now that lawsuits are settled, they have just introduces the color version of the Nook. With the improved device, you can now view color images on their e-reader, which makes it a little more advanced than it used to be.

The Nook, even with updates still can not match the iPad or the Kindle, and introducing it at the end of the holiday season seems kind of redundant. They will not get the holiday sales that they were hoping for and as a result, the item may spend more time on shelves than Barnes & Noble has expected. More improvements are needed if they are to match the competitors but with the current sales trend, any development seems very unlikely. Eventually the market will catch onto the item, but the item may not be around for that long. In today’s fast emerging technology market, speed of introduction is extremely important.
