- Mariner Energy Reports Fire Extinguished at Vermilion Platform
In a follow up to its news release issued earlier today, Mariner Energy, Inc. (NYSE: ME) reports that the fire at its production platform on Vermilion Block 380 has been extingui shed. The crew was transported to medical facilities onshore. No injuries have been reported. Automated shutoff equipment on the platform safely turned off the flow of oil and gas from the platform’s seven producing wells before the fire occurred and the crew evacuated.Today 5:29 PM EST - Coast Guard now reports no sheen near stricken rig
LOS ANGELES (MarketWatch) — Coast Guard officials told reporters late Thursd ay that they can see no oil sheen around the stricken Mariner Energy production platform 80 miles off the Louisiana coast. The rig was hit by a fire earlier in the day, forcing the evacuation of all 13 workers aboard the oil production platform. Mariner had told the Coast Guard earlier in the day that it saw a sheen, but Capt. Peter Troedsson said in a news conference broadcast on CNN that personnel aboard Coast Guard vessels and aircraft aren’t seeing it anymore.Today 5:24 PM EST
