Stocks have remained lower in mid-day trading on concerns about a recession in the euro. Some weak earnings reports have also weighed down investors’ sentiment.
At last check, the Dow Jones was trading 0.31% lower at 12,925.92, the S&P 500 was trading 0.41% lower at 1,356.67, and the Nasdaq was trading 0.50% lower at 2,933.81.
Financials are leading the losses in the S&P 500 in mid-day trading. At last check, Financials were trading 0.81% lower. Basic Materials stocks are also down sharply in mid-day trading on global growth worries. At last check, Basic Materials stocks were trading 0.53% lower. Industrials are down 0.48% currently, while Conglomerates are down 0.56% currently. Energy stocks have been the best performers in the S&P 500 in mid-day trading, up 0.27% currently.
Among the major losers in mid-day trading are Dollar Tree Inc. (NASDAQ: DLTR), which is currently trading 2.85% lower at $85.50, Dell Inc. (NASDAQ: DELL), which is currently trading 6.48% lower at $17.03, The TJX Companies Inc. (NYSE: TJX), which is currently trading 1.76% lower at $34.60, and Toll Brothers Inc. (NYSE: TOL), which is currently trading 5.27% lower at $22.45.
Among the major gainers in mid-day trading are Garmin Ltd. (NASDAQ: GRMN), which is currently trading 8.53% higher at $48.50, Chico’s FAS Inc. (NYSE: CHS), which is currently trading 16% higher at $14.86, and SourceFire Inc. (NASDAQ: FIRE), which is currently trading 22.84% higher at $44.
On the economic front, a report released by the National Association of Realtors showed that existing home sales in the U.S. rose 4.3% in the month January to an annual rate of 4.57 million units.
