Stocks are mixed in mid-day trading, with the Dow Jones and S&P 500 still in red and the Nasdaq currently in green. Investors’ sentiment has been weighed down by some weak U.S. economic data, which offset the positive developments in the euro zone.
At last check, the Dow Jones was trading 0.14% lower at 12,432.50, the S&P 500 was trading 0.03% lower at 1,292.05, and the Nasdaq was trading 0.21% higher at 2,716.39.
Basic Materials have been the best performers in the S&P 500 in trading today. At last check, Basic Materials stocks were trading 0.92% higher. Industrials are currently trading 0.53% higher, while Conglomerates are currently trading 0.49% higher. Energy stocks are leading the losses in the S&P 500 in trading today. At last check, Energy stocks were trading 0.33% lower.
Chevron Corporation (NYSE: CVX) has been among the worst performers in the Energy sector in trading today. Chevron shares are falling in trading today after the company issued a fourth-quarter profit warning on Wednesday. At last check, Chevron shares were trading 2.32% lower at $105.27. The stock fell to an intra-day low of $104.52 in trading today.
Other major losers in the Energy sector in mid-day trading today are ConocoPhillips (NYSE: COP), which is currently trading 1.15% lower at $71.18, and Exxon Mobil Corporation (NYSE: XOM), which is currently trading 0.73% lower at $84.46.
Among the major gainers in trading currently are Dick’s Sporting Goods Inc. (NYSE: DKS), which is currently trading 10.93% higher at $40.38, Tractor Supply Company (NASDAQ: TSCO), which is currently trading 8.67% higher at $79.25, Sanderson Farms Inc. (NASDAQ: SAFM), which is currently trading 7.57% higher at $51, and Westlake Chemical Corporation (NYSE: WLK), which is currently trading 7.18% higher at $51.63.
European markets ended on a mixed note earlier today.
