U.S. Stock Futures Gain

Friday, June 21, 2013 8:17 AM
U.S. stocks futures edged up on Friday, tracking a slight recovery in the global equity markets following previous day’s tumult, in which broader asset classes fell sharply after the Federal Reserve signaled possible tapering of its economic stimulating measures from the year-end. At last check, futures on DJIA gained 0.63%; those on NASDAQ 100 added 0.19% while futures on S&P 500 Index climbed 0.67%. U.S. equities fell across-the-board on Thursday as edgy investors sold riskier assets in droves and sought safety in the U.S. dollar and treasuries. All major U.S. averages fell more than 2.25% on Thursday. On earnings front, Darden Restaurants Inc. (NYSE: DRI) and CarMax Inc. (NYSE: KMX) are scheduled to report quarterly results ahead of the bell on Friday. Shares of enterprise software maker, Oracle Corp. (NASDAQ: ORCL) will be under pressure on Friday. Although net income rose 10% in the fiscal fourth quarter, thanks mainly to higher margin, revenue was almost flat and adjusted earnings fell short of the Company’s own earlier guidance. Facebook Inc. (NASDAQ: FB) unveiled its video feature for its photo-sharing app, Instagram at the Company’s headquarters on Thursday. Apparently, its video-sharing service is better than Twitter’s Vine app. A user can make a clip for 15 seconds and upload it from a smartphone while Twitter’s Vine app allows users to make videos of only 6 seconds. No major U.S. economic data release is due on Friday. In Asia, Japan’s leading average, NASDAQ 225 jumped 1.66%. In Europe, all major averages were moderately higher, at last check.
